New Activities

I am sorry for the lack of blogging. I’m feeling a little overwhelmed with the blogging at the moment. I have so many posts, and things to catch up on, and I can’t find a spare minute in my day. We have been adjusting to being a family of three again. Zach has had several days off and half days so we have been filling our days with outings and activities.

We are a biking family now. Something Zach has wanted for a long time, bicycles. Where we live there are so many nice places to bike I don’t know why we waited this long to get them. Zach, talked about them a lot while he was in Iraq, and did his research so we went looking as soon as he came home. We had a previous bad experience with some cheap target bikes. They were falling apart the first day we got them. We decided to go to the Trek bicycle store out here just to have a look around, and to get sized for a bike. We thought we would end up with some of the higher end Wal-Mart bikes because Trek is known to be expensive. It turned out that we found some reasonable bikes at Trek for the quality. We compared them to the other bikes we had been looking at, and there was just no comparison in parts and weight. May is bike riding month so they had some deals. We also got a good discount, and no tax being military. I also felt better knowing that these guys are professionals at putting bikes together. We get a thirty day test ride, and we can bring them back for any reason. We can get them tuned up for free anytime within 90 days so that put my mind at ease. Sometimes you do get what you pay for.

We found Jack a nice bike trailer, and played hell trying to get him into it. Poor thing is scared of the world. We tried telling him it was his new stroller, a tent, a train anything to get him in it. He just kept saying, “Don’t want it.” The afternoon we went on our bike ride he fell asleep in the car so we hurriedly got him into the trailer and strapped him in as he was waking up. He freaked out a little bit, but once Zach got going he loved it. He was yelling, “I’m riding bikes!” We ended up doing a 6 mile bike ride around the lake. I haven’t been on a bike since I was a kid. I may have overdone it a little, but we had a great time. I’m looking forward to riding along the coasts and the beaches. We hope to take them with us on Sundays, and ride them along the bay after church.

30 Day Shred

I forgot to add at the bottom of my last post that I am going to start Jillian Michaels' 30 Day Shred I have heard great things about this workout dvd. The workouts are only 20 minutes so they are easy to fit into the day. I hear they can be killer, but I am looking for a challenge. You can find the dvd at most retail stores for around $9. I'm starting on Monday so if you would like to join me grab this dvd, 3-5 lb hand weights, and a floor mat if you need it. Feel free to write on your own blog or leave comments here.

Homecoming 2009

Our date got moved, and Zach didn't get in until the 28th. They arrived on time in the early afternoon. I wasn't sure how Jack, was going to behave since he was missing his nap. When we would talk about Daddy coming home earlier in the week, he just kind of buried into himself with an embarrassed look. So, I had no idea what his reaction to actually seeing Zach would be.
When they finally let us out the doors to stand on the flight line to wait for them to fly in I said, "This is it Daddy is coming home." Jack, just covered his mouth with both hands and let out some gut busting giggles. Needless to say he was excited! We cheered as the plane approached and touched down, and anxiously tried to pick him out as the Marines descended the stairs. Then the agonizing wait for weapons turn in, and finally he was by our side. Jack, took right to him with no hesitations. We were busy laughing and hugging waiting for the gear to show up so we could finally go home.
The rest of the evening was spent just relaxing, and enjoying our time as a family. If Zach got out of Jack's site he would holler out, "Daddy?!" He feared he would disappear again. Jack, even needed extra reassurance at bedtime that yes, Daddy would really still be here in the morning. Typical Jack you have to prove everything to him.
