Life at 1572: A little controversial

A little controversial

Along with all of this autism talk in the news I thought I would share with you our decision for Jack. All of the statistics are saying something like 1 in 150 births they are now finding autism, and it is 1 in 94 boys. We have to admit this shocked and frightened Zach and I. We did some reading on the MMR vaccine. This is the one that they usually get at 1 year for Rubella, Mumps, and Measles. Some mothers and even a few case studies are linking the MMR vaccine to autism. Many doctors and the CDC however, are saying they cannot find such a link. Despite all of this we decided to speak to our pediatrician. Our pedi gave us much relief. She reassured us that there is no deadline for the MMR, and that we can wait if we like. That we shouldn't feel pressure to get it just because everyone else is. She said she doesn't want us to have any guilt over the situation. She also, said signs of autism show at about 1 1/2-2 years and the latest 3. By then we would know if anything is wrong, and if after that we can decide to give him the vaccine. So with peace of mind we have decided not to give Jack the MMR vaccine. We will wait and decide more on it later. Please feel free to leave your thoughts and comments good/bad. Zach, and I enjoy reading what you have to say.

Last night I caught a little of Larry King. Jenny McCarthy was on there along with another star with a autistic child. They both, seemed to warn parents about vaccinations so maybe you are doing the right thing. Not knowing much about this issue or knowing much about autisim, as long as he has all his shots to get into kindergarten when the time comes, that is what is important. You 2 are such AWESOME parents. :)
