Life at 1572: Wildfires

Wildfires

I am experiencing my first wildfire here in San Diego. I've been busy watching the news all day. They started last night with the Santa Ana winds really picking up. The smell of the the smoke was permeating the air outside, and creeping into the house. We put plastic on the windows to block as much smoke as we can, and it seems to be working. They are saying there are a dozen fires around us, and some of them have started to merge. They have totally evacuated places in the area like Ramona and Rancho Bernardo. Scroll the map if you want to see how close they are to us. I've been busy this morning packing everything we need to take with us. I have all my pictures and keepsakes. They want everyone to be ready because they aren't giving us any warning. If you get the knock on the door you have to go. They've been unable to actually fight the fires because the winds are just too strong for the helicopters to go out, and some areas are too dangerous for the firefighters. It is in the upper 90's today, and they don't thing the Santa Ana's are going to die down until Wednesday. We'll just have to wait and see what happens. Keep your thoughts and prayers with all those this is affecting.
