Sometimes, I wonder how my Grandmother, and most of the women of her generation could really have been such super housewives. The kind where the house was pristine clean at all times, and dinner was always on the table. My Grandma likes to tell me about how she had chores designated for days of the week. She would spend her entire Monday washing the laundry, and then on Tuesday she would spend her day ironing all those clothes etc. I don't know about you, but to me that just sounds dreadful. I don't know any women that spend their days like this. How could things have changed in such a short amount of time? My guess is their generation didn't have 500 tv channels, the internet, or Target to lure them away from their daily tasks. These days my To Do list just keeps getting longer and longer. I can't seem to find the hours to get it all done.

I'm right there with ya. I think back in their day, they didn't spend as much time with their kids. From what I gather, they had a lot of kids and the older ones cared for the younger ones while mom got things done. If you ask me, I'd rather play than iron clothes! Who irons clothes anymore? Yes, Target and the internet definitely lure me away from my "chores", although I tend to get the kids to help with things. They don't generally help all that much, but it preoccupies their time, keeps them happy and they feel helpful.

Well the daughter of that Grandma, yes there were assigned days for chores, the whole neighborhood of kids on the block & moms did play with us, like backyard pools (fill up yourself ones)& sandboxes. The key to their success of getting stuff done, was they got up earlier than the kids & did alot then. As we got older, then we were outside all the time, came home for lunch then out again, moms had nothing else to do but to clean, 3 channels on tv which usually was on only at nighttime, the whole family watching. Those were the days!!!Sorry to say I LOVE to IRON, I would today but my ironing board isn't the greatest. So very little gets ironed.Ironing stopped after my generation. The big deal of the day for moms was to remember to pull something out for dinner in time to thaw.
I still could go on about my childhood- it was great.

I remember when I was little (and the oldest of 4). We would get up have breakfast and then out to play! Mom would call us in to eat lunch, short nap (which as we got older, we learned to pretend we slept....) then outside again. The one thing I do remember about summer time with mom was we had a huge garden and we were either pulling weeds, gathering the vegetables and she would be canning all day. The weeding was suppose to be punishment but seems we were in trouble every day because I don't remember getting a break from the weeds! I think our mother's stayed home because there was usually only one car per household and dad had that at work, so they had no where like Target to venture out to... And I do remember ironing too, I like to do it too, but seems much easier to throw it back in the dryer for a bit to de-wrinkle it... And then think about how the Amish take care of daily chores with NO electricity... ughhhhh

I was just thinking today, as I spent an hour and a half cleaning after getting home from work that the saying "A clean house is a sign of a life wasted" is so true! LOL! I hate cleaning, but I hate clutter/dirt too. Lose lose situation, unless I get rich and can hire a housemaid! HAHA!
